Srpski језикIn pumping systems, the foot valve—concealed beneath the water—is extremely prone to being overlooked.Once it is damaged, the entire system will be paralyzed. When the system exhibits the following four symptoms, it indicates that the foot valve has malfunctioned:
1.Symptoms of Frequent Loss of Prime (Requiring Repeated Pump Priming):Before each startup, the piping must be free of residual water; water must be manually replenished before pumping can commence.Cause: The bottom valve core is stuck with mud and sand.Alternatively, the internal rubber sealing ring may have aged or deformed, causing water within the pipe to flow back toward the water source.
2.Symptoms of a Water Pump Running Dry (Failing to Draw Water):The water pump motor is running normally, but no water is flowing from the outlet.Cause: The internal spring or flap of the foot valve has become completely jammed in the closed position due to rust or scale buildup, preventing it from opening.
3.Drastic reduction in water output; signs of weak pumping performance:It is able to pump water, but the flow is noticeably reduced, and the pumping time has increased manifoldCause: The external strainer of the foot valve is severely clogged with aquatic plants, silt, or plastic bags, resulting in excessive intake resistance.
4.Symptom of Rapid Pressure Drop Upon Shutdown: Immediately after the water pump is switched off, the reading on the system pressure gauge rapidly drops to zero.Cause: The foot valve failed to close tightly, resulting in liquid backflow. This not only prevents pressure from being maintained but also easily triggers "water hammer" shock, potentially damaging the piping.
Expert Tip: It is recommended to pull the foot valve above the water surface every season to clean the filter screen, and to manually press it to test for smooth operation. For general agricultural and household applications, we recommend using a corrosion-resistant and rust-proof red PVC foot valveFor construction sites or sewage environments, high-strength cast iron foot valves should be selected.
